syms of type hypersensitivity
- hay fever
- asthma
- urticaria
- angioedema
- anaphylaxis
signs and syms of TRUE allergic rxn
- urticaria
- swelling
- skin rash
- chest tightness
- dyspnea, SOB
- rhinorrhea
- conjuctivitis
are heart palpitations a sym of a true allergic rxn?
no
why do ppl think they’re allergic to hydrocodone?
says hydrocodone makes them feel sick to stomach but opioid receptors in stomach do that

txtment for urticaria
50 mg diphenhydramine 4x/day until swelling resolves
angioedema
- edema in deeper planes
- diffuse enlargement of lips, infraorbital tissues, larynx, tongue
txtment for angioedema
send to ER so they can get through their acute phase
anaphylaxis
acute rxn occurs within minutes of injection, ingestion, or application of drugs
is anaphylaxis fatal?
yes, can be fatal within minutes without immediate, aggressive txtment
