Allergies Flashcards
Whats a type I reaction in the Gells and Coombs classification?
-IgE, acute anaphylaxis (hypersensitity and parasite resistance)
-Immunological memory
eg hay fever asthama
-mast cell mediator - histamine
-diagnosis - SPTs, RAST
*treatment* avoid exposure antihistamines bronchodilators steroids
Whats a type II reaction in the Gells and Coombs classification?
-IgG or IgM bound against antigen on an individual’s own cells, or against foreign antibody, such as that acquired after blood transfusion.
eg good pasture’s syndrome (autoimmune disease)
after wrong blood transfusion
Whats a type III reaction in the Gells and Coombs classification?
Immune complexes (antigen and usually IgG or IgM) are deposited in the tissue.
- causes local tissue damage and inflammation
eg. farmers lung
Whats a type IV reaction in the Gells and Coombs classification?
-Slow formation of granulomas, activates T cells
eg. Crohn’s disease
Leprosy
Tuberculosis
What can cause chronic inflammation?
- structural abnormalities (eg bronchiectasis)
- inappropriate cellular response (Rh arthritis) (autoimmune)
- Initiating causes persists (eg gall stones)
Name 3 types of antibodies and what they do
IgM - beginning of infection
IgG - highly specific targeting specific ‘epitopes’
IgE - made to things that we are allergic to
