It involves an immune system response.
What is a food intolerance?
The term applied to a range of responses to certain foods that does not involve an immune system response
What are the 2 most common allergies?
Peanuts and tree nuts.
What should people with allergies do with food labels?
Check them very carefully to ensure there are no allergies or traces of their allergies in the food.
What are 3 allergic reactions to peanuts?
-Rash
-Eczema
-Vomiting
What are 2 severe allergic reactions?
-Difficulty breathing due to asthma or throat swelling
-Drop in blood pressure
This is known as anaphylaxis and can be life-threatening.
What are 2 other food allergies which aren’t nuts?
Eggs and shellfish.
What causes a lactose intolerance?
People with lactose intolerance can not digest the milk sugar, lactose, because of an enzyme deficiency in the body. The enzyme used to break down lactose is called lactase
