Alkenes Flashcards
What does a catalytic converter produce?
H2O, CO2, N2
What structure does a catalytic converter have and why?
honeycomb, increases SA
What is a catalytic converter coated in?
platinum catalyst
Flue gas desulphurisation
CaO + SO2 -> CaSO3
How is NO/NO2 formed?
Nitrogen in air reacts with oxygen in air at very high high temperatures when fuels are burned
What problems do NO, NO2 and SO2 cause?
acid rain
What type of alkanes have a higher boiling point, why?
straight chain because the SA contact increases and there’s stronger VDW between molecules
What does thermal cracking produce?
alkenes and straight chained alkanes
What does catalytic cracking produce?
Motor fuels and aromatic hydrocarbons and cycloalkanes
What conditions does catalytic cracking need?
high temp, moderate pressure, zeolite catalyst
What conditions does thermal cracking need?
high temp, high pressure
