aldehyde and ketone reactions Flashcards
1
Q
what is an aldol reaction - addition and condensation
A
involves two aldehydes/ketones or aldehyde+ketone to product an aldol - an aldehyde and a alcohol
aldol condensation is when the alcohol group in product is eliminated and forms an alkene
2
Q
what is an enolate ion? what reaction is it present in?
A
aldol reaction - when the aldehyde/ketone is deprotonated to form a nucleophile - enolate form of the two resonance is more stable
