A
Benzodiazepines are more effective than placebo in the relief of alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
Chlordiapoxide is a good first line agent as it has a long half life, slow absorption, low potency and low addictive potential.
Oxazepam, temazepam and lorazepam are useful in patients with liver disease.
Clomethiazole (heminevrin) is effective but is advised against as it carries a high risk of respiratory depression.
For associated hallucinations, haloperidol is the treatment of choice
