Airworthiness certificate
Must be visible to passengers, does not expire as long as the plane complies with inspections & ADs.
Required Inspections
Annual VOR 100 HR Altimeter & static Transponder ELT- battery= 50% of life or 1 hour cumulative use, System= 12 calendar months.
Maintenance Records: must include
- Description of work completed
- Date of completion
- Signature & certificate # of person approving return

Radio operating license, if flying outside US
Operating handbook
Weight & balance & data plate, compass deviation card
What are AD’s
- Used to notify aircraft owners of an unsafe condition.
- They can be one time or reoccurring.
- They shall be complied with to remain airworthy.
- The manufacturer will issue a service bulletin and the FAA determines if it becomes an AD.
- Similar to a recall on a car.
Purpose and Procedures for obtaining a Special Flight Permit
- it is a special airworthiness certificate allowing operation of an aircraft that is not airworthy but is still capable of a specific safe flight.
- they may be obtained through the FSDO.
- must be flown to a station for repairs, or for delivery, or removing aircraft out of danger.
When can a pilot perform preventive maintenance? What are some examples?
*if he/she is the owner of the aircraft only
A. Replenishing hydraulic fluid
B. Repairing upholstery
C. Replacing safety belts
Using an approved MEL
- it is an authorized letter from the FSDO allowing operation of an aircraft with approved equipment onboard that is allowed to be broken.
1. Must have an approved letter for that aircraft from FSDO
2. Must be in the aircraft’s records
3. Must be in the aircraft all times
4. ONLY for that exact aircraft
What is a KOEL?
It’s an additional equipment list for the airplane that is required for a certain type of operation (like VFR or IFR)
