Airway Clearance Techniques Flashcards
Goals of ACT
- Optimize airway Potency
- Optimize V/Q ratio
- Promote alveolar expansion
- Increase Gas exchange
passive technique which aligns the segmental bronchi with gravity allowing the force of gravity to drain the segment.
Postural Drainage
rhythmical force that is applied with cupped hands to the thorax over the involved lung segments with the aim of dislodging or loosening secretions.
Percussion
Can you do percussion with MEchanical device?
Yes
Percussion shoulnt be performed over
Bony prominence
Floating Ribs
Breast tissue
Percussion can be associated with
Bronchspasm
Decrease PaO2
Dysrrhytmia
Fatigue of PT
sustained co-contraction of the upper extremities to produce a vibratory force that is transmitted to the thorax over the involved lung segment.
Vibration
