Airway & Breathing Flashcards
What kind of airway maneuvers should be used first
Simple maneuvers first
What is important not to do regarding ventilation
It is important not to give excessive ventilation
In the case of cardiac arrest with no definitive airway how many ventilations and compressions are given
2 ventilations with every 30 compressions
In the case of cardiac arrest with and advanced airway (ET tube) what is the protocol
1 ventilation every 6-8 seconds (8-10 breaths/min) without pausing compressions
In the case of respiratory arrest with or without advanced airway what is the protocol
1 ventilation every 5-6 seconds (10-12 breaths/min)
When should insertion of advanced airway be delayed
Delay insertion to finish compressions
After an advanced airway is in place what should be stopped
Standard CPR, only compressions with airbag ventilation
What is the compression rate with advanced airway in place
At least 100/min
Rescue breaths every….
6-8 seconds (8-10/min)
If you use suction to clear the airway what should you not do
delay compressions for more than 10 seconds
If the patient is unconscious what type of advanced airway device is used
Can use OPA (oral) or NPA (nasal)
What airway device is used for conscious patient with gag reflex
NPA
What airway device is safe to use in all cases and avoids the patient throwing up
NPA
