Airspeeds Flashcards
What does Indicated Airspeed (IAS) represent?
Speed displayed on the airspeed indicator.
How is Calibrated Airspeed (CAS) determined?
CAS is IAS corrected for instrument and position errors.
What is True Airspeed (TAS)?
TAS is CAS corrected for non-standard temperature and pressure.
How does altitude and temperature affect True Airspeed (TAS)?
Higher altitude and temperature increase TAS relative to CAS.
What is Groundspeed in relation to TAS?
Groundspeed is TAS plus or minus the wind component.
What is VNE in aviation?
Never exceed speed.
What does VS0 indicate on an airspeed indicator?
Stall speed in landing configuration, bottom of white arc.
What does Vfe indicate on an airspeed indicator?
Maximum flap extended speed, top of white arc.
How is groundspeed affected by a headwind?
Groundspeed is TAS minus the headwind component.
How is groundspeed affected by a tailwind?
Groundspeed is TAS plus the tailwind component.
What does VS1 represent on the airspeed indicator?
Stall speed in a specified configuration, bottom of the green arc.
What is the Mach number?
Ratio of TAS to the local speed of sound.
What does the yellow arc on an airspeed indicator represent?
Speed range for smooth air only.
What does VNO indicate on the airspeed indicator?
Maximum structural cruising speed, top of the green arc.
What is VA in aviation?
Maneuvering speed.
