Airspeed Indicator Flashcards
- It is a differential pressure gauge
- It Measures difference between pitot (ram) pressure and static (ambient) pressure
- It Indicates the speed oft he aircraft through the air (mph and/or knots)
airspeed indicator
Where does the accuracy of airspeed indicator relies?
-It relies heavily on the correct operation of the aircraft’s PITOT-STATIC system
Airspeed must be connected to two sources. What are they?
PITOT TUBE that accurately senses impact air pressure
STATIC PORT that accurately senses undisturbed ambient air pressure
What is the white arc on the indicator?
- Flap operating range
- VSO Stall speed with flaps and gear extended (bottom of white arc)
- VFE Max speed for flapextension (top of white arc)
What is the green arc on the indicator?
- Normal operating range
- Bottom of green arc is stall speedwith flaps and gear retracted (VS1)
- Top of green arc is maximum structuralcruising speed (VNO)
What is the Yellow arc on the indicator?
- Caution speed range
- Flight in this speed range isonly in smooth air
What is the Red line on the indicator?
- Never exceed speed
- VNE
- Maximum airspeed for the aircraft
- Exceeding can result in structuralfailure
On a multi engine aircraft. What is the additional RED LINE near bottom of the green arc?
- Represents minimum indicated airspeed at which the aircraft can be controlled with the critical engine inoperative
- VMC
On a multi engine aircraft. What is the additional BLUE LINE?
-Best rate of climb speed with critical engine inoperative
VYSE
What is the UNCORRECTED, or DIRECT, reading of an airspeed indicator?
Indicated Airspeed
What is the CORRECTED airspeed?
Calibrated Airspeed
______ is the same as indicated airspeed when standard day conditions exist
True Airspeed
Only instrument that is connected to pitot tube
Airspeed indicator
