What are the three types of airports
- civil

What is a civil airport.
Civil – airports open to the public
What is a military airport?
Military/Government – airports operated by the military or other agencies of the
Federal Government
What is a private airport?
Private – airports designated for private or restricted use only, not open to the
general public
What you must do when working with a towered airport?
Pilots must maintain radio communication with controllers
Acknowledge and comply with instructions
Ask for amended instructions if they cannot comply with instructions as issued
May deviate from instructions in an emergency but must inform ATC of the deviation as soon as
possible
What must pilot do at nontowered airports
Pilots self announce their intentions to other aircraft in the area on a specified frequency
What is displaced treshold?
an area marked by a broad, solid line across the runways which marks the
beginning of the runway for landing
