What are the 5 types of airports?
Towered, uncontrolled towered, non-towered, heliport, seaplane base
Do planes land into or against the wind?
Into the wind
How are runways facing?
to Magentic headings – ex: runway at 270 degrees would be called Runway 27
What does a red background with white text sign mean?
entrance to a runway or critical area
What does a black background with yellow text and yellow border mean?
to identify a taxiway or runway location
What does a yellow background with black text mean? (two types)
Identifies the intersecting taxiways leading out of an intersection — also can mean they are providing info on where the control tower is, radio frequencies, etc. – basically used for info and directions
What does a yellow background with black text AND arrows mean?
Show locations for runways, terminals, etc.
What does a black sign with white text mean?
Shows the distance remaining of the runway in thousands of feet
What angle do aircraft usually fly in at?
45 degrees downwind of traffic pattern
What height do aircraft usually fly around waiting to land?
1,000 feet AGL
What is a SIDA?
Security Identification Display Area – limited access area of an airport
