Airland Flashcards
State basic airfield considerations
MOG, security, airplane airfield compatibility, climate considerations such as temperature and rainy season, TOLD
ACN
Aircraft classification number; determined by aircraft manufacturer
PCN
Pavement classification number
LCN
Load classification number; assumptions include low tire pressure
CBR
California bearing ratio; some flexible pavements and soils are measured in CBR
For a given soil a measure of its relative resistance to penetration under controlled conditions of density and moisture content
Use a DCP (dynamic cone penetrometer) and measure number of drops it takes to reach a certain depth at various points on runway
CBR produces what
Useful life determination- determines the number of passes an airplane can make at a GW.
A pass is one land and one takeoff
CBR considerations in regards to tires
Deflating the tires improved TOLD for stop distance but will require more power to get the plane rolling. Lower pressure increases contact area on the tire and weight distribution
Sidewall flexion in tires will weak tires an indeterminate amount
ESWL
Equivalent single wheel loading, determined from geometry of multiple-wheeled landing gears
Substandard airfields
Lack of flotation properties are necessary for everyday operations, unusually rough and undulating, rutted and pitted runways, tires produce easily visible ruts
Given a site description assess the usefulness of the assault zone to the mission
Location of site vs objective: Anticipated resistance (forces near the LZ, local militia/OPFOR response time, local town and civilians); surrounding terrain (terrain between LZ and objective, cover for ground personnel and site security); runway condition (currency of evacuation, airfields MOG, local conditions)
Operating weight is
Basic weight + crew, crew bags, and emergency equipment
Zero Fuel Weight
Operating weight + passengers, cargo and expendables
Explain what happens to the CG window with fuel in the external tracks
CG window narrows by 1% fwd and 1% aft with fuel in the external tanks
MC-130 H ramp limits

MC-130 J ramp limits
