Aircraft Systems Flashcards
Where should I find more information on aircraft systems?
PHAK chapter 7
what is the power plant
where thrust is created.
what type of engine to we have?
Lycomming 0-360 Horizontally opposed Air-cooled Normally aspirated Direct drive
Direct drive
meaning the propeller is directly connected to the crank shaft.
how many cylinders is the engine?
The engine is 4 cylinders, with combustion chambers, intake and exhaust
what type of oil do we use?
we use a 15w50 oil that cleans, lubricates, cools, and seals.
How many spark plugs are there?
8 total spark plugs
crank shaft is moved by what?
The pistons, which in turn moves the propeller.
What are the benefits of a horizontally opposed engine?
Have an even number of engines, ussually air cooled, and horizontal, high power to weight…. create little drag
what type of propeller that we use
Sesenich 76 inches in length; fixed pitch
What is the tachometer?
shows the rpm: regulated by throttle
What is the induction system is ours carbureted?
We have a carburated system… so the air passes through the air inlet it passes through a venturi and air velocity increases and the there is a fuel and air float chamber…
What are the disadvantages of carbureted?
carbureted are susceptible to icing.
When does carb icing happen?
below 70 degreed F… use carb
how does carb heat work
turn on carb heat, we will lose power significantly, then as it melts the engine power will come back up a little bit. then turn it off and the power will return.
