Aeromedical Factors Flashcards
Medical Certificates
first class… second class… third class.
61.53
if you know that you are not safe to fly, you must report it.
how can we obtain a medical certificate?
Get it from an AME, find on FAA website
First class
atp certificate, under 40 12 over 40 6 months
second class medical
good for 12 months
third class certificate
over 40 24 months, under 40 60 months.
what is hypoxia?
lack of oxygen in the body. this can lead to
Hypoxic hypoxia
decrease in partial pressure up in the air. Less oxygen in the air which leads to hypoxic hypoxia. the cure is to descend
Hypemic Hypoxia
Blood is unable to carry blood in the body. It is usually the result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Hystotoxic Hypoxia
The brain rejects the oxygen…. comes from alcohol or drugs
Stagnant Hypoxia
blood is not moving throughout the body, comes from g-force
symptoms of hyopxia
headache, visual impairment, numbness, delayed reactions, tingling, turning blue.
How do you recover from hypoxia?
descend to a lower altitude, stop pulling g force, oxygen mask
What is hyperventilation?
Too much oxygen in the body, caused by fear stress and other factors including short shallow breathes… slow down and breath into a paper bag.
How can middle ear and sinus congestion affect you in flight
when you climb it will relieve pressure… when you descend it will hurt worse because their is higher pressure
