air port terminology Flashcards
baording pass
A receipt with a seat number, now issued only at check-in through the Internet or at the airport. A ticket isn’t valid unless a boarding pass has been issued.
cancellation fee
The monetary penalty due when travel plans are canceled, usually after final payment has been made.
carry-on-baggage
According to most carriers, a bag that fits in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of a passenger. Airlines tend to enforce these rules as more passengers choose to carry their baggage onto the plane to avoid the baggage fees airlines now charge.
change fee
A fee charged by a carrier or travel website for making changes to a reservation once it’s been paid.
checked baggage
The baggage a passenger doesn’t carry on board. Most carriers charge a fee for checking baggage. These fees range depending on how many bags are checked and what airline you’re flying on.
Domestic flight
air flights with one country
e ticket
A paperless airline ticket that allows a passenger to check in and fly with just proper photo identification. What may look like a ticket is actually just a paper passenger receipt. E-tickets can’t be lost, and they can’t be used by anyone else, so they’re safer than standard paper tickets, which are nearly obsolete now.
frequent flyer program
A program that awards free upgrades and/or airline tickets for accumulating a certain number of air miles on that airline.
international flights
air flights between two or more countries
