active voice
Verb form in which the subject is performing the action
passive voice
Verb form in which the subject of the sentence is not doing the action
asyndeton
a sentence without standard conjunctions. It is a building effect (like a crescendo)
polysyndeton
A series of clauses or phrases using additional standard conjunctions. Using more conjunctions than necessary. It can create a rhythm and cadence, but it also shows things in equality
declarative sentence
a sentence that makes a statement
imperative sentence
a sentence that gives an order or command
exclamatory sentence
A sentence that expresses surprise, shock, strength, or any other sudden strong emotions
interrogative sentence
a sentence that asks a question
sentence fragment
A sentence that is missing either its subject or its main verb
simple sentence
A sentence that contains one independent clause (1 subject and 1 predicate)
compound sentence
A sentence that contains two independent clauses linked by a conjunction, such as “and” or “but” (fanboy)
complex sentence
A sentence that contains at least one independent clause plus one dependent clause usually linked by a conjunction
compound-complex sentence
A sentence that contains at least two independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses
intentional fragment
Word, clause, phrase that works like a sentence but does not fit the grammatical requirements for one.
periodic sentence
type of sentence in which the subject performs the action
