Agricultural Revolution Flashcards
What did the Enclosure Acts do?
allowed the common areas become privately owned
Why was the Enclosure Act a smart move?
led to wealthy farmers buying large sections of land to create larger and more complex farms
What did this do for smaller farmers?
Forced smaller farmers off their land, lost their way of life, went to local towns and cities in search of work
Crop Rotation:
the practice of rotating crops on an area of farmland to avoid depleting the soil of nutrients
- (increased crop yield and stop build up of pests)
Selective Breeding:
purposeful breeding of plants and animals to produce desirable traits.
New Machines: The Seed Drill
allowed a semi-automated, controlled distribution and plantation of wheat seed
