what is the current situation w aging population
ppl aged 85 and above fastest growing population eg bc improvements in sanitation + nutrition
ppl aged over 80 occupy quarter of beds on englsih hospitals
complex bc associated w social care (not easy to discharge bc need to have care plan)
why is there a problem w aging population
-hospital beds bc lack of trained staff in social care sector(results in hospital admissions instead)
-limited free care, bc only if u meet a certain criteria then will an occupational theorist come asses ur home)
solutions for ageing population
-better pay for social care workers (6 million unpaid care workers are voluntarily providing care)
-more investment in care home to reduce hospital spaces
-more free care for those w more minor conditions bc will prevent future problems
-support for family caregivers, eg respite care and giving short term relief such as travel and test time
-tech:telemedicine, remote monitoring and assistive tech can reduce hospitals visits
(eg on work experince saw gp talk to patients on phone
-more integrated care system + more communication w social care (more time for both services to meet)
