A
- sense of self (looking glass theory)
- realistic perception of world and sense of control
- assess accomplishments, make choices and establish self esteem

A
-race, religion, ethnicity, parental role models acts as filter which provides values -> fosters independence and self reliance (individualism)

Importance of peer group?
A
feedback is important and contributes to the establishment of identity

A
- help develop competence: knowledge and skills
- provides challenges and gives realistic perception of what students do
- provide anticipatory socialization
- prepare and practice behaviours for workplace

A
- determines job opportunities
- students can explore and test options (co-op, career studies, part time work) in seeking rewarding work
