What are the causes if an ageing population?

A
  • improvements in sanitation, housing, nutrition and medical interventions
  • life expectancy is rising globally
  • falls in fertility (higher age of first pregnancy)
  • decline in premature mortality
  • more people reaching older age while fewer children are born
    (less people born but less dying therefore peeps just generally getting older with fewer youngsters to balance it out)
