Childhood only exists due to spread of literacy which has lead to greater protection of children from parents. This is changing due to increased importance of media which has lead to disappearance of childhood.

Storm and stress associated with youth is socially constructed in western societies. Not the case in other societies such as Hamar Tribe who have a ritual symbolising change from childhood to adulthood without period of youth/adolescence.

Middle age remains as having the highest level of esteem, as they tend to have the most power while avoiding stigmas related to old age.

Middle age people feel pressure about getting older due to fear of physical ageing and being responsible for both children and parents.

Old people are strangers in their own land due to lack of being able to access internet which cuts them from the rest of society.

We can fight the signs of ageing so we no longer subject to expectations and accept stereotypes of old people.

Old people go through infantalisation as they start to lose their independence and privacy which causes them to act like children again.

Old people are currently represented negatively in the media but this may change due to an ageing population. This will create a more positive representation of old people.
