  • a melancholy poem, which reflects the subject of marriage. poem deals with Larkin’s views on young mothers watching their children play in the playground + he concludes that marrying young leads to mother’s losing their identities
  • Larkins description of young mothers taking children to the park is normal but narrators point of view on life is expressed. seems ordinary, everyday occurrence highlights the theme of change + how it cannot be avoided, like the passing of time
