economic and financial advantage in comp. to others. (assesed through income or wealth)
Poverty
lack of the financial resources for a minimum standard of living. (absolute poverty, relative poverty)
Are poor people unmotivated and have weak work ethics?
NO. Myth. Poor working adults spend more hours working each week than their wealthier counterparts.
Is wealth inherited?
NO. Most millionaires are first generation rich. (3/4)
Are wealthy people greedy and selfish?
NO. 62% contributed 5-10% of their income to charity & 72% volunteered 5 hours or more a month for some charity.
Poverty’s impact on society
Lack of mental stability, low income and non-existen health insurance, no graduation or attendance to college, more likely to commit street crime, political instability, risk of war, terrorism.
Affluence’s impact on society
Investments in technological research, rich societies generate more waste.
Poverty and Mental illness
Correlated to anxiety, depression, distress, suicide. Higher rates of mental illness in low income comunities.
Non Governmental Organization
Alegal organization created by natural or legal people and operates independantly of any government.
