What is an occlusal cant?
A malocclusion trait that describes the extent and severity of tilt in the occlusal plane.
What is emergence profile?
The contour of the tooth, restoration or implant where it emerges from the gingiva
what is smile line?
The creases in your skin extending from both sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth
AKA nasolabial folds
What is buccal corridor?
The space conceived between the buccal surface of the posterior teeth and the corners of the lips when the patient smiles
What is the gingival zenith?
The most apical point of the gingival marginal scallop
Why is the gingival zenith important?
it can greatly influence the axial inclination and emergence profile of the teeth
Teeth have lobes, what are these?
the separate divisions that come together to form a tooth
What are the development grooves of a tooth?
These divide the lobes and run parallel to the long axis of the tooth
What are the 2 main ways to take a shade match?
Use a shade guide
Composite buttons
What is “hue” in dental materials?
Used to describe the basic colour of a tooth or dental restoration (e.g. A, B, C, D on vita shade guide)
What is the “chroma” in dental materials?
The intensity of colour in the tooth or restoration (e.g. A1, A2, A3, A4 on vita shade guide)
What is the order of shade selection?
First selecting the value, chroma, and lastly hue
What is important to ensure when selecting shade for teeth?
Take shade of moist teeth
take shade from middle 1/3 of the tooth
shade taking is subjective - ask nurse for opinion
What is the golden proportion?
Present between the widths of the eight anterior teeth when viewed from straight on (not the actual width).
It states the further back in the mouth you go the smaller the width of tooth
What is a retraction cord used for?
Primarily used to push the gum tissue away from the prepared margins of the tooth, in order to create an accurate impression of the teeth.
