Aeromedical Factors Flashcards
How long is a 2nd class Med Certificate good for if the pilot is over 40?
12 months
The 4 forms of hypoxia
Hypoxic- any condition that interrupts flow of O2 into the lungs
Hypemic- any condition that interferes with the ability of blood to carry oxygen (CO poisoning)
Stagnant- any situation that interferes with normal circulation
Histoxic- any condition that interferes with the normal utilization of O2 (alcohol, narcotics)
What are the rods and where are they located?
Rods are located mainly in the periphery of the retina. An are 10,000 times more sensitive to light. Rods are used fir low light or night vision and are involved in peripheral vision.
What is hypoxia
State of oxygen deficiency
Eye movement during daytime collision avoidance scanning should
not exceed 10 degrees and view each sector for at least 1 second
What is Autokinesis
In the dark, a stationary light appears to move when stared at for many seconds.
Describe how the Altimeter works.
A stack of sealed wafers comprise the main component of the altimeter. An aneroid wafer is a sealed wafer with and internal pressure of 29.92. A linkage connects the wafer to the instrument. Expanding and contacting of wafer moves the linkage.
Name 2 distinct types of light sensitive cells located in the retina.
Rods and Cones are the light sensitive cells in the retina.
Effects of hypoxia
deterioration of night vision
impaired judgement, memory, alertness, coordination
headache, drowsiness, dizziness
What are the cones in the eye and what do they do?
Cones are located in higher concentrations in the central area or the retina.
Cones are used for day or high intensity light vision, detects detail, color and far away objects
