Aerobic respiration Flashcards
What are the chemical reactions inside controlled by ?
Enzymes
Where does Aerobic respiration take place ?
Animal and Plant cells
What chemical reactions occur in Aerobic respiration ?
Use glucose and release energy
Where do chemical reactions take place
They mostly take place in the mitochondria
What is the equation for Aerobic respiration ?
Glucose + Oxygen > Carbon Dioxide + Water (+Energy)
What is the energy from the equation used for ?
This is used for building large molecules from small molecules. For Muscles to contract. To maintain body temperature in cold surroundings.
To convert nitrate ions and sugars into proteins.
What happens during exercise ?
The heart rate increases, the rate and depth of breathing increases.
Why does the blood flow need to increase ?
This is in order to get oxygen and glucose to cells for respiration and to remove latic acid and carbon dioxide.
Where is glycogen stored ?
This is stored in the muscles
What is glycogen and what is it used for ?
This is a insoluble version of glucose, which can be converted to glucose.
