aerobic respiration Flashcards
What is respiration?
The process in which cells breakdown glucose to release energy to produce ATP.
What is aerobic respiration?
A process which requires oxygen to breakdown glucose to produce carbon dioxide, water and any ATP.
What are coenzymes?
They are molecules that some enzymes need in order to function.
Examples of coenzymes in respiration are?
NAD, FAD and Coenzyme A
What is phosphorylation?
The addition of a phosphate group to a molecule.
What is decarboxylation?
The loss of a carbon dioxide from a molecule.
What is oxidation?
The loss of hydrogen/electrons from a molecule.
What is dehydrogenation?
The loss of hydrogen atoms from a molecule.
What are the four stages of aerobic respiration?
- Glycolysis
- The link reaction
- The krebs cycle
- Oxidative phosphorylation
