Aerobic Cellular Respiration Flashcards
1
Q
Glyolysis
A
sugar splitting. This occurs in the cytoplasm that breaks down glucose into 2 pyruvate: NADH and 2 ATP molecules are made from this. It doesn’t require oxygen (anaerobic pathway).
2
Q
Citric Acid Cycle
A
this is a cyclical pathway that occurs in the mitochondria that produces NADH and 2 ATP and release carbon dioxide.
3
Q
Electron Transport Chain
A
a series of molecules embedded in the mitochondrial membrane where NADH is made in steps 1 & 2 carries electron here. 32-34 ATP is made depending on the cell and it requires oxygen as the final election acceptor in the chain.
