action of a muscle contraction Flashcards
1
Q
Steps to muscle contraction
A
• when contraction begins, muscle cells breaks down creatine phosphate to produce ATP. When resting, muscle cells rebuild their supply of creatine phosphate.
• Muscle cells also use fermentation to produce ATP quickly. when resting, muscle cells metabolize lactate, reforming as much glucose and then glycogen as possible.
• For the long term, muscle cells switch to cellular respiration to produce ATP aerobically.
