Adverse Weather Flashcards
Icing type for stratoform clouds & how to escape
Rime icing, change altitude by more than 3000’
Icing type for cumuloform clouds & how to escape
Clear, Circumnavigate
Minimum distance from thunderstorm cell:
A. Below 10,000 ft
B. 10,000-25,000 ft
C. Above 25,000 ft
A. 5 miles
B. 10 miles
C. 20 miles
The downwind side of a storm should be avoided by at least
___ mile(s) for every knot of wind aloft
1
Light turbulence =
Momentarily causes slight erratic changes in altitude and/or attitude. Chop causes slight rapid rhythmic bumpiness
Moderate turbulence =
Similar to light but of greater intensity. Change in altitude/attitude but aircraft in positive control. Variation in IAS
Severe turbulence =
Causes large, abrupt changes in attitude/altitude. Causes large variation of IAS. Aircraft maybe momentarily out of control
Extreme turbulence =
Extreme: Aircraft is violently tossed about and is practically impossible to control. May cause structural damage
Where can guidance for action to take in turbulence be found?
FOM 7-81
