What is a definiton of ADL assessment?
Assessment by an OT, usually conducted in a workers home, to assess the level of functioning in relation to personal care, household tasks, recreational and social activities.
What is the purpose of an ADL assessment?
Reduce the potential adverse impact of in the injury on the worker, to facilitate early return to normal activity, and to provide an indicator of functional tolerances for determining work capacity.
What do we look at during an ADL assessment?
Looking at the impact of injury on the persons ability to function at home:
- Home maintenance
- Cleaning
- Washing
- Self Care
- Gardening
What do we assess during an ADL assessment?
- Ability of worker to complete these roles and occupations at home
- Need information about the workers capacity compared against demands of task
- Need to also consider the roles of other family members and the reasonableness of these other members taking up roles
What is the goal of rehabilitation approach?
- What activities can we grade/modify/adapt to assist with the rehabilitation of the injured worker and how can we do this?
- What are the benefits of this approach/ what might be the pitfalls when using this approach?
Why would you switch from a rehabilitation to compensatory approach?
- Medical status and long term prognosis
- No other family members available to assist
