Advanced Dive Medicine Loss of conciousness Flashcards
Hypoxia occurrence
Occur during any phase of dive with Rapid onset
Hypoxia during Air Dive
Media- Contaminated gas (CO), improper line up, equipment failure, improper purge
Injury - Airway obstruction, Pneumothorax, spinal, swimming induced pulmonary edema (SIPE)
CNS O2 Toxcicty
VENTID-C, Muscle twitching is clearest warning, convulsion may occur 1-2mins off O2.
Generally occurs in 1.3 PPO2 wet and 2.4 PPO2 Dry.
Hypercapnia
Occurs on BT generally deeper than 120 due to resistance in media.Slowing work relieves, Progressive onset commonly accompanied by headache and rapid heart beat.
AGE
Rapid occurrence during ascent or shortly after surfacing w/ :10. Must have recompression, only occurs on ascent/upward excursion/positive pressure breathing.
DCS
Onset usually latent compared to AGE, Check dive profile
CO Poisoning
Due to PPo2 at depth. Most likely to go unconscious during ascent. accompanied by headache burning eyes foul taste.
