Adrenergic antagonists Flashcards
Non-selective B antagonists
Nadolol, timolol, propanolol
B1 selective antagonists
Metoprolol, atenolol, esmolol
Partial B agonist
Pindolol
What makes nadolol different?
It has a longer half-life
What makes timolol different?
Given for glaucoma
What makes esmolol different?
Emergent IV control of arrhythmia; very short half-life
What makes pindolol indicated over the others?
When there’s exercise intolerance secondary to bronchiole constriction.
When the hypertension is due to excess sympathetic output
Difference between phenoxybenzamine and phentolamine
Both non-selective A antagonists. Phenoxybenzamine is irreversible, whereas phentolamine is reversible
Indication of phenoxybenzamine
IV treatment of pheochromocytoma
What condition do both doxazosin and terazosin treat?
BPH
