Adrenal imaging Flashcards
1
Q
How can you quickly figure out how much Hounsfield Units (HU) the adrenal glands on CT?
A
Compare the color of the liver to the adrenal gland. The liver has an average HU of 50 (40-60). If the same color than around 50 HU. If darker than the liver than it is less HU units (<50). Darker means less dense tissue. If it is lighter than the liver than it is higher HU (>50). Lighter means more dense tissue
2
Q
High Hounsfield Units (HU) on unenhanced CT indicates what type of density lesion and is it lipid poor or rich?
A
Indicates high density adrenal nodule/lipid-poor
3
Q
what module of imaging is more accurate in diagnosing lipid-poor adrenal nodules, CT or MRI?
A
MRI
