Logical deduction forms basis of judgement implications
What are propositional thoughts?
Evaluate logic of verbal statements without referring to real-world circumstances
What are the effects of formal operational stage?
- Counteract reasoning by adults (argument/debates)
- Self consciousness and self focusing (egocentrism) shown by distorted opinions of self and others
- Imaginary audience

- Idealism and criticism
What is an imaginary audience?
Belief they are focus of everyone’s attention and concern
What is a personal fable?
Certain that others are observing and thinking of them, inflated opinion of own importance- special and unique

- Imagining alternative family, religious, political and moral systems and want to explore them
- Understand others have strengths and weaknesses

- Impulse control poor
- Best decisions occur when calm but emotionally aroused
- Emotions may overwhelm decision making
- Higher trait inhibition leads to less risky behaviour choices

- Prefrontal cortex slow to develop
- Heightened emotions and reward seeking
