Role Confusion= Adolescents have no clear identity but fluctuate from one persona to another
Foreclosure= Erkison’s term for premature identity formation, when adolescents adopt their parents’ or society’s roles and values without questioning or analysis
Moratorium= Socially acceptable ways to postpone achieving identity, eg., going to college/military

When parental knowledge arises from a warm, supportive relationship, adolescents usually become confident, well-educated adults, avoiding drugs and risky sex
If parents are cold/punitive, monitoring may lead to deception and rebellion
Peer Pressure
Encouragement to conform to friends or contemporaries in behavior, dress, and attitude. Adolescents do many things with peers that they would not do alone
