Definition
A word which is used to modify or provide more information about a noun or pronoun
Descriptive (qualitative) adjectives
Adjectives which describe a feature or quality of a person, thing or object
Evaluative adjectives
Adjectives which gives someone’s opinion about a noun
Quantitative adjectives
Words which provide information on the quantity of the noun
Interrogative adjectives
Adjectives which ask a question: whose, which and what. They must come before a noun or pronoun
Proper adjectives
Words which are proper nouns which work as an adjective in the sentence
Demonstrative adjectives
Adjectives which modify nouns by showing direct reference to someone or something: this, that, those, and these
Indefinite adjectives
Adjectives which modify the noun in a non-specific way: some, any, many, few, most, and much
Possessive adjectives
Adjectives which are used to show a noun belongs to someone: his, hers, our, my, their.
They must go before a noun otherwise they are considered possessive pronouns
Compound adjectives
When more than one word is used to describe a noun, with the words being joined together in some way
Degree of comparison adjectives (positive, comparative and superlative)
Adjectives which are used when comparing two or more nouns to give more information about the extent of each comparison
Predicate Adjectives
Adjectives that modify or describe the subject of a sentence or clause and are linked to the subject by a linking verb.
Distributive adjective
A distributive adjective is an adjective that refers to members of a group individually
