What drug is used to manage ADHD and why?
Is it effective to use drug treatment for ADHD?
V. effective - multiple times more so than antibiotics
Methylphenidate (or …fetamine) - increases dopamine by blocking transporters (ADHD is linked to v.efficient dopamine removal)
What is the triad of symptoms?
- Hyperactivity
- Impulsivity
- Inattention

How many symptoms do adults and kids have to have to be diagnosed?
Kids
- 6+ inattention AND/OR 6+ hyperactivity and impulsivity
Adults
- same apply but 5+
Are the screening tools the same for adults and kids?
No different for both
What is important to ask an adult who thinks they might have ADHD?
How is it impacting on their life - relationships, work, driving
Drinking and smoking during pregnancy is a risk factor. T/F?

Why do symptoms decrease as someone gets older?
The cortical thickens and the brain matures
What part of the brain shows reduced activity in ADHD?
The frontal lobe
