ADH, aldosterone, parathyroid Flashcards
Where is vasopressin (ADH) produced?**
supra-optic nuclei of hypothalamus
Where is vasopressin (ADH) secreted?
posterior pituitary gland
What is the function of ADH?**
regulated amount of water excreted by the kidneys
Where does reabsorption of water occur?
directly from renal tubules by acting on the epithalial cells of the distal renal tubule
What does ADH do for the hypothalamus?**
either monitors amount of blood going through the hypothalamus or monitoring the concentration of water in the blood
Aldosterone is secreted from what part of the adrenal gland?**
zona glomerulosa
What is the most abundant hormone from the zona glomerulosa?
aldosterone
What is the function of aldosterone?
target the kidneys for sodium and water absorption
What happens when there is too much potassium in the blood?
aldosterone is secreted and helps remove potassium from the blood, which increases reabsorption of sodium to increase flid in the blood
What is the function of the parathyroid?**
to work with the kidneys to regulate calcium and phosphate
What can stimulate the production of PTH (parathyroid hormone)?
when the blood level of calcium decreases
Where is atrial natriuretic peptide synthesized?
atrium of heart
What is the function of atrial natriuretic peptide?
decrease secretion of angiotensin II
decrease secretion of aldosterone
control of secretion for blood pressure, blood volume and plasma concentration
