Why does the ADF have values?

A

Core set of guiding principles to set and uphold expectations/behaviour under one unifying culture for all services. The values can also lead in ambiguous situations , where the strict application of rules is not obvious.

What is the Discipline Act?

A

Defence personnel are not only subject to civillian law but military law as well. Gives the defence the power to enforce its own judiciary system and can charge and punish personnel that breach military law.

How does the Discipline system function?

A

Discipline officer scheme - lowest level, commanders deal with minor offences in a simple, quick and fair manner

Summary authorities - more serious offences, delt with by commanding officers and officers appointed as superior summary authorities

Magistrate and courts marital proceedings - highest level, provides automatic review of summary authority proceedings by reviewing authority. May have rights of appeal to DF Discipline Appeal Tribunal, Federal Court or High Court of Australia.

ADF Policies

A

-No tolerence policy to alcohol and substance abuse.
-Unrestricted service - must be ready and willing to work at anytime and be posted anywhere at a moments notice.
- Appearance - well groomed physical appearance is what the public sees.
- Respectful environment - ADF promotes diversity and equality in its work force.
- Combat role - All roles could be a combat role, personnel must be ready and willing to be put in or near war like environments.
- IMPS - 4 years (Degree + one year) begins after completion of degree.
