Adenovirus Flashcards
respiratory viruses
adenoviruses, coronaviruses, rhinoviruses (picornaviruses), influenza virus (ortho) parainfluenza (paramyoxovirus) respiratory syncytial virus (paramyxovirus), reoviruses
adenovirus is…
linear ds-DNA, capsid, naked virus, only virus with fiber in every vertices.
Transmitted via droplet inhalation (respiration), fecal-oral (gastro). Lytic or latent potential
what is clinical presentation of adenovirus?
respiratory tract disease-> acute respiratory disease,
Ocular disease-> pharyngoconjunctival fever, epidemic keratoconjunctivitis
acute hemorrhage cystitis
gastroeneritis (diarrhea in infants)
infections in IC’s
clinical presentation of acute respiratory disease
(types 1,2,5,6) Mostly non-symptomatic
fever, rhinorrhea, cough, sore throat (pharyngitis, adenoiditis, tonsillitis)
leukocytosis, tracheobronchitis, bronchiolitis and pneumonia, conjunctivitis
clincial symptoms of ocular disease, pharyngoconjunctival fever
respiratory route or contact with ocular secretions. fever (pool fever), sore throat, coryza, red eyes, with or without pharyngitis, pain tearing pruitus morning crusting
clinical presentation of epidemic keratoconjunctivits
hands or fomites, instrumental, industrial trauma, welders, airborne particles (4-24 days incu)
bilateral, palpebral, follicular conjunctivitis, scarring and visual impairment
