- posteriorly and superior continuous with buccopharyngeal fascia of pharynx
- laterally fuses with alar fascia and the carotid sheaths
- pierced by thyroid vessels

- superior fixed to cranial base
- inferiorly blends with endothoracic fascia and anterior longitudinal ligament (T3/4)
- extends laterally over 1st rib to surround brachial plexus

Posterior - body of T1, superior margin of scapula to coracoid process
Lateral - first pair of ribs and costal cartilage
Inferior - superior thoracic aperture and axillary inlets
