A

They can increased levels of natural neurotransmitters

Increase of dopamine-remember this event

Opiates (and meth release dopamine)

Cocaine-blocks the reabsorption of dopamine and neroepinephrine

Mimic the activity of neurotransmitters-

Nicotine-acetylcholine

Alcohol-binds to the acetylcholine and serotonine receptors

Explain the pathophysiology to tolerance (List the different ways tolerance can happen)

A

Increase in number of receptors-example large amounts of nicotine in the body will increase the amount of acetylcholine receptors-so when nicotine levels decrease the body exhibit symptoms of withdrawal

Increase the release of excitatory neurotransmitter’s-example alcohol trying to balance the system

Increase dopamine degrading enzyme

Depletion of neurotransmitters
