Adaptations, Food Chains Flashcards
1
Q
(DON’T NEED)What are the three different types of adaptations?
A
Structural, behavioural and functional
2
Q
(DON’T NEED)What are structural adaptations? Give examples
A
- Bodily structures, such as shape and colour.
- E.g. white fur for camouflage, fat to reduce heat loss, low surface area to volume ratio, large surface area to volume ratio
3
Q
(DON’T NEED)What are Behavioural adaptations and give examples?
A
- Way an animal behaves.
- E.g. birds migrate to warmer climates
4
Q
(DON’T NEED)What are Functional adaptations and give examples?
A
- Things that happen inside the animals body that relate to processes like reproduction and metabolism.
- E.g. desert animals conserve water by producing very little sweat and small amounts of concentrated urine, brown bears hibernate to reduce their metabolism.
5
Q
What is biomass?
A
Energy stored inside a plant
6
Q
What is a halophile?
A
Extremophiles which are adapted to salty conditions
