Q

How are animals adapted to cold environments

A

Many animals have a small surface area and small ears that reduces the amount of heat they lose

They have large fat stores blubber that keeps them insulated and stops heat loss through the skin

The blubber acts as an source of food during winter months

Camflauge- this benefits both prey and predators

Q

How are animals adapted to hotter climates

A

They have large surface area do heat is loss to prevent them overheating

Large ears to help them lose heat and cool then down

Thin layers of fat and fur so that they lose heat through skin easily

Many live in burrows under ground where temperature is cooler

Q

How are plants adapted to surviving with little water in the desert

A

Leaves have a small surface area so that water loss is small(spines)

Some have curled leaves or spines

Many have roots underground which absorbs waters and stores it and succulents

Q

How are cacti adapted to collects and prevent the loss of water

A

They have spines which have small surface areas so small amounts water vapour is lost

They have succulents(green stem) and tissues that store water for the cacti

Spines to stop predators from eating them

15
Q

How do animals find mates

A

They fight each other for a female

They try and show off for a female

16
Q

What is a territory

A

An area where animals can feed and live and look after resources

17
Q

What do plants compete for and why

A

Light - for photosynthesis
Water- for photosynthesis and too keep cells rigid

Mineral- to make vital chemical for cells

18
Q

Why do seeds need to spread out over a suitable distance

A

As of not the parent plant deprives the other seedlings of the essentials needed to grow

19
Q

How do small plants in forests compete

A

They have roots adaptions to retrieve water

In the shade of other plants they grow taller and there leaves have a larger surface area

20
Q

What type of roots do some leaves have

A

Some have short and hollow roots do get water and nutrients close to the soil

Some have long deep roots to collect water deep underground

21
Q

What are the ways in which seeds are distributed

A

They can be distributed as waste from animals

Plant form mini explosions that spread the seeds out as far as possible

They are spread out by wind(sesame seeds)

some seeds contain hooks to hook onto animal fur and to be taken far from the plants
I

22
Q

In fields which seeds are most likely to be successful

A

The seeds that spread their roots out the first to gain access to water quickly

The ones that the leaves spread our first and the furthest in order to photosynthesise and gain enegry
