Q
What is the most common cause of AKI?
A
Acute tubular necrosis
2
Q
What is the pathophysiology of ATN?
A
Necrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells severely effects the functioning of kidneys
- in the very early stages of ATN is reversible if the cause is removed.

Q
What are the two main causes of ATN?
A
- Ischaemia - shock / sepsis
- Nephrotoxins -
- aminoglycosides
- myoglobulin secondary to rhabdomyolysis
4

- Raised creatinine
- Raised potassium
- Raised urea
