Acute retroviral Syndrome/ARS Flashcards
What is acute retroviral syndrome?
Acute retroviral syndrome is the first stage of the infection with the human immunodeficinecy virus (HIV)
Clinical features of Acute retroviral syndrome and when they occure?
Similar to the flue
- headache
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Body aches
- Fever
- Rash (morbiliform)
The symptoms disappear on their own within weeks. They can also be called mononucleosis- like symptoms.
Symptoms occure within 2-4 weeks after someone gets HIV.
Treatment of Acute retroviral syndrome
- Antiretroviral drugs (Azidothymidine)
- Nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors
- Non- nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors
- Protease inhibitors
- Entery or fusion inhibitors
Diagnosis of Acute retroviral drugs?
CD4 count ( CD4 count will decrease over time as the virus attacks the CD4 cells).
If a persons CD4 count decreases to fewer than 200 cells per cubic millimeter of blood, they’ll receive a diagnosis of stage 3 HIV or AIDS
- Count viral load and drug resistance.
