What are diagnostic lab tests and imaging for acute bacterial prostatitis
Laboratory/Imaging
• CBC
• Leukocytosis with left shift
• Urinalysis
• Pyuria, bacteriuria & hematuria
• Urine cultures
• Blood cultures
Pelvic CT or Transrectal Ultrasound if No response to ABX in 24-48H to rule out prostate abscess
Treatment plan for acute bacterial prostatitis
Identify pathogen
• Typically use quinolone
Acute bacterial prostatitis: 4-8 weeks of antibiotics
Chronic bacterial prostatitis: 12 weeks of antibiotics
